Privacy Notice
Last updated: August 13, 2026
1. Who is responsible for your data
José Manuel Arizaleta Elizalde, trading as Editorial PirataZ and Mota Comix (“we”), located at Naucalpan de Juárez, Estado de México, C.P. 53530, México, is the controller responsible for processing your personal data.
This notice covers the data we collect through motacomix.com and through email exchanges with you. We operate from Mexico, and Mexican data protection law applies. For anything related to your personal data, write to privacidad@motacomix.com.
2. Personal data we collect
We collect only what we need to sell and deliver what you buy. Depending on what you do on the site:
When you place an order
- Full name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Shipping address (physical products only)
- Delivery notes, if you provide them
When you create an account
- Email and password (your password is handled by our authentication provider; we never see or store it)
- Username, profile picture and any profile details you choose to add
- If you sign in with Google, the email and name that account shares with us
When you contact us or subscribe
- Email address and the content of your message
- Email address, if you join the card-payment waiting list
Automatically
Technical browsing data (pages viewed, device type, browser, approximate country) through the analytics tools described in the cookies section. This data does not identify you by name.
We do not collect sensitive personal data. We also never store your card details: when you pay by card, that information goes straight to the payment processor and never touches our servers.
This site is for adults 18 and over and is not directed at children; we do not knowingly collect data from minors.
3. What we use your data for
Necessary purposes
These are essential to our relationship with you. If you object to them, we cannot sell to you:
- Process, charge, prepare and ship your orders
- Keep you informed about your order (confirmation, payment, shipping, delivery)
- Deliver download links for digital products and control access to them
- Handle your questions, claims, exchanges and returns
- Comply with tax and legal obligations, and honour the 5-business-day return window
- Prevent fraud and abuse of the site
Additional purposes
These are not necessary for your purchase and you can opt out without affecting your order:
- Measure site usage in aggregate to improve it
- Tell you about releases, news or newly available payment methods, if you gave us your email for that
To opt out, write to privacidad@motacomix.com or use the unsubscribe link included in every marketing email.
4. Who we share your data with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We share it only with the providers that let us run the store, and only the data each one needs. Because we operate from Mexico with international providers, your data may be stored outside your country; by placing an order you consent to this international transfer.
Providers processing data on our behalf
- Vercel — site hosting and technical logs
- Supabase — order database and user accounts
- Sanity — product catalogue and content (stores no customer data)
- Stripe and PayPal — card and wallet payment processing
- Resend — transactional and marketing email delivery
- ImprovMX — inbound email forwarding for our domain
- Google — usage analytics, store location maps and product listings in Shopping
- Cloudflare — bot protection at checkout
- Sentry — technical error logging
- Shipping carriers — to deliver physical products
Each provider processes your data under our instructions and its own privacy policy. We may also disclose data when required by a competent authority or a legal obligation.
5. Your rights
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, cancellation (erasure) and objection over your personal data at any time, and withdraw any consent you gave us.
- Access: find out what data we hold about you and how we use it
- Rectification: correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Cancellation: ask us to delete it
- Objection: ask us to stop using it for a particular purpose
To exercise them, email privacidad@motacomix.com with your name, a contact method, which right you want to exercise and over which data. We will ask you to verify your identity to protect your information.
We respond within a maximum of 20 business days, and if the request is granted we act on it within the following 15 business days.
Note that some data cannot be deleted right away: records of a completed purchase must be kept for as long as our tax and accounting obligations require.
Withdrawing your consent
You can withdraw the consent you gave us at any time, through the same channel: an email to privacidad@motacomix.com. We confirm it within the same deadlines as any other request.
Withdrawal is not retroactive: it does not undo processing already carried out, nor does it reach data we are legally required to keep. And if you withdraw consent for the necessary purposes, we will no longer be able to sell to you or deliver what you already bought.
Limiting the use or disclosure of your data
Beyond the rights above, you can ask us to limit the use or disclosure of your data without cancelling it. Write to the same address, privacidad@motacomix.com, and you go onto our own exclusion list, which we check before any send-out.
For third-party advertising in general, Mexico also runs a free public opt-out register, the Registro Público para Evitar Publicidad (REPEP), operated by PROFECO.
Who handles your requests
Requests are handled directly by the controller, José Manuel Arizaleta Elizalde, at privacidad@motacomix.com. There are no intermediaries: the email reaches the person who can act on it.
If your account has a public collection, you can make it private from your profile at any time, without writing to us.
If you are not satisfied with our response
You can turn to the Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno, the Mexican authority for personal data protection in the private sector since the law that took effect on 21 March 2025 (this role previously belonged to INAI, now dissolved).
7. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when our practices, our providers or applicable law change. The version in force is always the one published on this page, with its last-updated date shown above.
